Join the Bayou Processing & Storage Team At Bayou Processing &Storage, we specialize in steel toll processing and warehousing, serving customers across the energy, automotive, construction, and manufacturing industries. We're looking for a dependable, safety-focused Receiving Material Handler to join our operations team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring incoming steel is safely unloaded, accurately received, inspected, and staged for production. The Shipping Material Handler is responsible for safely loading outbound steel shipments, staging material for shipment, and maintaining accurate inventory records. This role works closely with production, quality, receiving, and warehouse personnel to ensure materials are received accurately and efficiently while maintaining a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience in receiving, warehousing, manufacturing, steel processing, or a related industrial environment.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes is preferred.
  • Forklift experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of safe rigging and material handling practices.
  • Ability to safely move large, heavy, and irregularly shaped steel products.
  • Basic computer skills and experience in maintaining inventory records.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including material weights and quantities.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to safety, quality, and inventory accuracy.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Safely load outbound steel coils using overhead cranes and other material handling equipment.
  • Perform daily inspections of cranes, lifting devices, and equipment before use, documenting and reporting any maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and packing slips.
  • Accurately log materials and the status of shipments using the company systems.
  • Empty scrap hoppers and record scrap weights.
  • Assist receiving and machine operators during periods of high production or as business needs require.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe receiving area.
  • Identify opportunities to improve receiving processes, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
