About The Position

The Gloucester Marine Terminal is operated by Gloucester Terminals LLC and offers stevedoring and break bulk services. The terminal, located in the Port of Philadelphia has direct access to highways as well as three rail lines that transit across the United States and Canada, providing unrivaled turnaround times for our partners. We are seeking a skilled A Crane Mechanic who is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various types of cranes, including mobile, overhead, tower, and crawler cranes. This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems to ensure safe and efficient crane operation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; technical certification or associate degree in mechanics, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience as a crane mechanic or heavy equipment technician.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic software and hand tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and service manuals.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, often in outdoor or high-risk environments.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) upon job offer.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification from the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) or similar organization.
  • Welding and fabrication skills.
  • Familiarity with different brands and models of cranes (e.g., Liebherr, Manitowoc, Terex)

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in cranes and related equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections to ensure equipment meets safety and operational standards.
  • Repair or replace defective components such as hoist systems, gears, motors, and control panels.
  • Maintain accurate service records, including work performed, parts used, and hours worked.
  • Test crane performance after repairs to verify proper operation.
  • Interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Collaborate with crane operators, engineers, and safety personnel to assess equipment performance and make necessary adjustments.
  • Comply with OSHA, manufacturer guidelines, and company safety policies.
  • Use diagnostic tools and heavy-duty mechanical equipment safely and effectively.
  • Occasionally travel to job sites for on-site service and emergency repairs.
