About The Position

The Craftsman 1st Class Mechanic is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing natural gas compressor systems associated with natural gas transmission, storage and production operations. These may include large natural gas driven two and four cycle reciprocating engines coupled to reciprocating or screw compressors, high-speed turbines driving centrifugal compressors, and electric motor driven reciprocating or screw compressors. In addition to the auxiliary equipment associated with compression, the Craftsman/Mechanic will be asked to work on pumps and other equipment associated with the production and transportation of natural gas.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Pass and maintain 49 CFR Part 192 certification on a yearly basis
Must meet non-welding related "operator qualification" standards to ensure qualification to perform assigned tasks and to recognize and react to abnormal operating conditions as specified in Title 49 CFR, Part 192
Complete NorthWestern Energy Gas Operator Qualification and HAZMAT programs within 6 months of hire
Valid Commercial Driver's License and satisfactory driving record or the ability to obtain a commercial driver's license
Knowledge of applicable codes and safety
Commitment to safe working practices and knowledge of safety policies/procedures
Respond from home to primary work location required guidelines
Demonstrate and maintain good safety record
Willing to act as the employee in charge

Get Into Energy - Energy Industry Fundamental 2.0 certification is a plus

Responsibilities

Communicate verbally and understand audible signals in emergency/safety situations
Use blueprints, written or verbal instructions, and knowledge to install and repair gas compressor systems and related components
Knowledge of compressors and associated mechanical components to be able to service and repair equipment
Operate and use hoists, cranes, or side booms (includes applying appropriate rigging to safely and efficiently move compressors or components)
Respond to natural gas emergencies
Assume leadership role in response to emergency situations
Act as a lead responsible for job planning, filling out tail boards, supervising team members and job task completion, and overseeing worksite and team safety
Responsible for operation and maintenance of high pressure natural gas engines, compressors, dehydration equipment, natural gas liquids removal plant and related facilities
Lead overhauls, construction projects, routine maintenance on compression equipment and vehicles, and related natural gas equipment
Some line patrol activities requiring travel up to 80% from early spring through mid-summer
Some travel may be required up to 25% per year
Must live within 30 minutes of Bridger to meet the needs of the Dry Creek Facility emergency response & call out responsibilities
Perform individual lifts and manipulate needed equipment weighing up to 75 pounds
Work overtime outside of scheduled hours, participating in either call out availability or an on-call rotation schedule, in response to acute and/ or planned service needs
Drive to installation locations
Adapt to technological changes as they are implemented
Perform gloving techniques to work with secondary voltage up to 480 volts (as with 3-phase motors)
Perform steel welding (not gas related)
Access, operate, and exit heavy equipment safely and effectively (e.g. backhoes, forklifts, skid steers, road graters to plow snow, and various size trucks with or without trailers)
Interact with the public
Organize equipment and perform regular and preventative maintenance
Other duties as assigned
