About The Position

Participates as a critical Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) team member in researching, evaluating, designing, and implementing quality improvement practices for the Department of Corrections. Provides CQI for Adult and Juvenile Field Services by observing, coaching, training, modeling, and providing ongoing feedback to director, deputy directors, senior managers, intensive supervision officers, and other key stakeholders. Responsible for complex work related to organizational performance improvement, strategic innovation, and the delivery of agency training. Performs CQI-related activities with department wide responsibility to analyze, maintain, and strengthen field services staff in the application of Core Correctional Practices and Evidence-Based Practices (EBP). Responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of individual / group targeted skill development derived from direct observations. Provides quasi – supervisory responsibility and oversight of data collection, analysis, reporting, and CQI measures.

Requirements

  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in corrections, including a minimum of one year management with supervisory responsibility and documented experience providing staff training.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or University in Criminal Justice, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid Kansas driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance.
  • Personal passenger vehicle for use when county vehicle is not available.
  • Pass legal background check, Child and Adult Abuse & Neglect Central Registry checks, KCJIS Security Policy (fingerprint) check, and pre-employment screens.
  • Must also meet the required conditions contained in KSA 65-516 and KAR 28-4-356(d), (1-5).
  • Applicable knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in corrections, including a minimum of two years management with supervisory responsibility and documented experience providing staff training.
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Psychology, or human services field.
  • Trained in and facilitated any of the following: Motivational Interviewing (MI), Effective Practices in Correctional Settings (EPICS-II), and Effective Case Management, Thinking for a Change (T4C), Aggression Replacement Training (ART), and Moral Recognition Therapy (MRT).
  • Experience with training and group facilitation.
  • Experience with data management and tracking systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and communicate the strategic direction and enhancement strategies of CQI to stakeholders.
  • Identify through research, direct observation and collaboration with stakeholders those practices that are working well and those in need of attention.
  • Collect and analyze program data to measure performance and outcomes and prepares regular outcome reports.
  • Utilize data to make course corrections as needed.
  • Write, edit, and finalize reports and presentations and present findings and recommendations to department senior managers.
  • Develop and implement trainings for DOC, using best practices, available resources, and research.
