About The Position

The CPI Trainer is responsible for delivering Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training to new and current employees while ensuring training practices align with organizational policies, safety standards, and established CPI guidelines. This position works closely with inpatient programs and other departments to strengthen staff knowledge and competency in crisis prevention, de-escalation, and safe intervention techniques. The CPI Trainer also reviews crisis-related events, maintains accurate training records, supports ongoing staff development, and assists with patient interventions when needed. The ideal candidate is an effective instructor and communicator who can engage employees in a learning environment, demonstrate CPI techniques, evaluate training needs, and promote safe and effective crisis prevention practices throughout the organization.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Relevant professional training or work experience may substitute for the preferred bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required; experience with Microsoft Access or similar database systems is preferred.
  • Previous experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), data entry, training administration, Human Resources, or administrative support is preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license.
  • Must maintain Apalachee Center Designated Auto Driver status, as applicable.

  • Working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office applications, databases, and electronic recordkeeping systems.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize agency-specific software, databases, and Learning Management Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct CPI training for new and current employees using appropriate instructional methods and approved training techniques.
  • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate training programs based on identified staff and organizational needs.
  • Provide instruction and practical demonstrations to strengthen employee competency in crisis prevention, de-escalation, and intervention techniques.
  • Evaluate employee understanding and performance during training activities.
  • Assist with identifying opportunities for additional education, coaching, and staff development.
  • Assist with patient interventions during crisis situations using approved CPI techniques and established agency procedures.
  • Review and evaluate Code Green events to identify opportunities to improve prevention, de-escalation, and intervention practices.
  • Promote strategies designed to reduce crisis situations and enhance the safety of patients and employees.
  • Document crisis-related events and interventions accurately and in accordance with established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of CPI training, certifications, attendance, and completion requirements.
  • Track employee CPI training status and assist with identifying upcoming or outstanding training requirements.
  • Prepare reports related to CPI training, crisis management, and safety initiatives as requested.
  • Ensure training documentation is completed accurately and maintained in accordance with agency requirements.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, Training & Staff Development, inpatient leadership, supervisors, and other departments to support agency-wide crisis prevention initiatives.
  • Assist with evaluating current practices and identifying opportunities to strengthen the implementation of Crisis Prevention and Intervention models.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff regarding appropriate CPI practices and techniques.
  • Participate in special projects and other training or safety-related initiatives as assigned.
