About The Position

This is a unique opportunity for individuals seeking to become certified EMTs. The program offers a full scholarship covering tuition, fees, books, and uniforms, along with a stipend for class time attendance. Upon successful completion of the course and meeting Medic's requirements, graduates will be placed in full-time EMT positions with Medic, starting at a minimum of $21.01/hour, with potential for agency performance pay up to $3,000 annually. The role involves working under pressure in medical emergencies, requiring clear communication, adaptability, and attention to detail. Employment is contingent upon passing a drug screen, pre-employment physical, health screening, background checks, and a Physical Ability Test (Medpat). Continued employment requires maintaining insurability, annual respiratory fit testing, completing an agency-approved driving course, and all mandatory in-service training. The position demands the ability to perform essential functions, including lifting over 100 pounds, standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, and operating a commercial vehicle in high-stress environments. Adherence to all policies, work rules, procedures, and standards, including HIPAA Privacy Act, is mandatory. The work environment involves frequent exposure to outside weather conditions and occasional exposure to various hazards. This is an at-will employment position.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age on or before the official end date of the course.
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Valid and current driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift 100+ lbs, with assistance.
  • Ability to pass skills performance that requires extensive bending, stretching, kneeling, stooping, balance, walking, and crawling.
  • No prior or current EMT certification.
  • Must provide an official transcript verifying completion of at least 10th grade English (eligible to take 11th grade English).
  • Transcript upload required at the time of application.
  • Completion of a Physical and Medical Acknowledgement Form.
  • Successful completion of a drug screen.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical and health screening.
  • Background checks may include but are not limited to: Motor vehicle (A clean driving record is defined as an MVR (5-year history)) that has: No more than three combined moving violations. No convictions of DWI, Reckless Driving, or Suspensions due to moving violations.
  • Criminal Sanction Checks.
  • Credit Reference Checks.
  • Successful completion of Medpat (Physical Ability Test).
  • Successful completion of Scope of Practice to obtain local credentials.
  • Provide proof of employment eligibility.
  • Maintain insurability with Agency's insurance carrier.
  • Ability to perform essential functions of positions with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a threat of harm to self or others.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include holidays, nights, and weekends.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods; must be able to adjust to maintain clinical ability regardless of the treatment scene; have the dexterity to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands, and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • The employee must regularly lift and move more than 100 pounds.
  • The employee must be capable of safely operating and driving a commercial vehicle in a high-stress environment.

  • Must adhere to all policies, work rules, procedures, and standards.
  • Will limit access to protected health information (PHI) to the information reasonably necessary to do the job.
  • Will share information only on a need-to-know basis for work purposes.
  • By accepting the CPCC EMT Scholarship and entering the Program, you will be expected to fulfill all course requirements.
  • Upon graduation and certification, you will also be expected to work as a full-time employee with Medic for a minimum of one (1) year.

Responsibilities

  • Attend Tuesday/Thursday classes (6 PM-10 PM) and every other Saturday for a total of 248 class hours.
  • Maintain 90% attendance throughout the CPCC EMT program.
  • Achieve an average of 80% on all written evaluations.
  • Complete 48 hours of clinical training/ride-time.
  • Obtain NC EMT credential.
  • Work under pressure in medical emergencies.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
  • Adapt to frequent changes quickly.
  • Remain alert at all times and pay close attention to details.
  • Pass a drug screen, pre-employment physical and health screening, and background checks.
  • Successfully complete Medpat (Physical Ability Test).
  • Successfully complete Scope of Practice to obtain local credentials.
  • Provide proof of employment eligibility.
  • Maintain insurability with the Agency's insurance carrier.
  • Undergo annual Respiratory Fit Testing.
  • Complete an Agency-Approved Driving Course.
  • Attend all Mandatory In-service Training.
  • Perform essential functions of positions with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a threat of harm to self or others.
  • Work flexible hours to include holidays, nights, and weekends.
  • Be available for callback and overtime as required.
  • Stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
  • Adjust to maintain clinical ability regardless of the treatment scene.
  • Use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands, and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
