About The Position

The Courtesy Clerk/Grocery Bagger bags customers’ groceries, handles merchandise carefully, and may assist customers with loading bags into their cars. The role also involves basic shelf conditioning, informing customers about grocery specials, returning merchandise to shelves, gathering and returning shopping carts, cleaning store and parking-lot areas, and handling seasonal merchandise. Associates help customers and cashiers by answering product questions, understanding the store layout, locating products, and conducting price checks. The position reinforces safety programs, follows food safety regulations and company guidelines, and inspects equipment for maintenance needs. Associates are expected to work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment, manage conflict constructively, act with honesty and integrity, follow directions, seek help when needed, and provide support through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults. Responsibilities

Bag groceries at checkout, striving to place at least five items in each bag while preventing damage and following best practices for reusable, plastic, and paper bags.
Assist with removing customers’ merchandise from the bottom of the shopping cart for checkout.
Offer to help customers load bags into their cars.
Perform basic shelf conditioning and inform customers of grocery specials.
Return merchandise to store shelves.
Gather shopping carts and return them to designated areas.
Clean spills, collect and pick up trash inside the store and in the parking lot, and clean areas inside and outside the store.
Handle and assemble seasonal merchandise.
Understand the store layout, locate products, and conduct price checks for cashiers.
Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues, and notify store management.
Follow food safety regulations and guidelines.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Answer customers’ questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store, helping customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated.
Comply with local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment and manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
