About The Position

The Courtesy Clerk/Grocery Bagger bags groceries at checkout, assists customers with their merchandise and loading bags into their cars, and performs cleaning, cart retrieval, shelf conditioning, and other store-support tasks. The role also helps customers locate products, answers questions, communicates specials, and follows safety, food safety, maintenance, and company guidelines. The position requires cooperative work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment, with the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

Bag groceries at checkout, striving for at least five items per bag while ensuring items are not damaged.
Follow best practices for bagging items in reusable, plastic, and paper bags.
Assist in removing customers’ merchandise from the bottom of the bascart for checkout.
Offer to help customers load bags into their cars.
Perform basic shelf conditioning.
Inform customers of grocery specials.
Return merchandise to store shelves.
Gather bascarts and return them to designated areas.
Clean spills and collect and pick up trash inside the store and in the parking lot.
Clean all areas inside and outside the store.
Handle and assemble seasonal merchandise.
Understand the store layout, locate products, and conduct price checks for cashiers.
Comply with safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues, and notify store management.
Follow food safety regulations and guidelines.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Answer questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store, helping customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated.
Adhere to local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment and manage conflict reasonably, cooperatively, and without confrontation.
Act honestly and with integrity regarding customer and business information.
Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
