About The Position

The Court Services Officer I position involves the supervision and monitoring of children and families under the jurisdiction of the District Court, Child in Need of Care Department. This role also provides support to the Juvenile Offender Unit as needed. Responsibilities include managing a caseload, maintaining documentation in court case management systems, and providing professional assessments to the court. The position requires court appearances, home studies, court reports, home visits, child investigations, family assessments, and correspondence with other agencies and the public. The officer must comply with state mandates and local policies and procedures, and perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in corrections, criminology, counseling, psychology, sociology, or a closely related field.
  • All applicants are subject to a name-based criminal history background check.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and access to legal means of transportation.
  • Must pass a fingerprint-based background check within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to complete YLS certification within 12 months of employment and maintain certification while employed.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, verbally and written.
  • Proficient use of current computer programs and technology.
  • Professional, courteous and cooperative in demeanor.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of the child welfare and/or juvenile justice fields.
  • Experience in caseload management.
  • Ability to multitask and have excellent time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor children and families under the jurisdiction of the District Court, Child in Need of Care Department.
  • Provide support to the Juvenile Offender Unit if needed.
  • Manage a Child in Need of Care caseload or other specific caseload as directed.
  • Compile and maintain documentation on all contacts.
  • Utilize required court case management systems in all cases.
  • Provide the court with a professional assessment to assist in making appropriate findings and orders.
  • Conduct court appearances, home studies, court reports, home visits, child investigations, and family assessments.
  • Correspond with other agencies and the public.
  • Comply with requirements of state mandate as well as local policies and procedures.
  • Perform any additional duties as required by the CSOIII, Chief CSO or the Court.
