About The Position

The Court Reporter is responsible for the recording, transcription and preservation of all court proceedings. Court Reporters are responsible for maintaining evidence, exhibits and providing administrative duties on behalf of the Court.

Requirements

  • Ability to efficiently use stenography, voice recording devices, and/or computer software for the transcription of proceedings.
  • Excellent concentration, writing, and listening skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain composure and calm regardless of proceedings.
  • Exceptional communication skills are required, with the ability to interact with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Basic understanding of legal, medical, and other technical terminology required in court proceedings.
  • Basic understanding of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five (3-5) years of court reporting experience and/or paralegal training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Attends court sessions and other legal proceedings and uses stenography, voice recording tools, and computers to create verbatim transcriptions of legal proceedings.
  • Transfers transcription of proceedings to the official record and provides copies to appropriate parties.
  • Answers court telephones and respond to questions from court representatives and the general public.
  • Ensures accurate transcription by double-checking record against recordings.
  • Formats official records in accordance with applicable court requirements.
  • Organizes records as directed by judges or lawyers.
  • Develops and maintains up-to-date index of notes; coordinates records with presiding court clerk as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
