About The Position

The Court Reporter is responsible for producing a complete, accurate, and secure transcript of DOHR Board of Appeal hearings. This role has a critical function in legal proceedings, requiring an exact record of events. The Court Reporter will provide services for both in-person (Davidson County) and virtual (Microsoft Teams) hearings. Hearings are estimated to be 4 hours but could extend up to 8 hours in a day or even span two days. The Court Reporter is expected to furnish a transcript of reported evidence or proceedings upon request, with the cost covered in the hourly rate.

Requirements

  • Must be local to TN candidates only.
  • Must supply own equipment.
  • Ability to transcribe during scheduled hearings.
  • Proficiency in reviewing notes and ensuring accuracy of names and terminology.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Court Reporter for a Board of Appeals.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams for virtual hearings.

Responsibilities

  • Produce a complete, accurate, and secure transcript of DOHR Board of Appeal hearings.
  • Act as the primary in-person Court Reporter for the office and the back-up virtual Court Reporter.
  • Read back portions of events or legal proceedings upon request.
  • Review notes taken, including the spelling of names and technical terminology.
  • Transcribe during the scheduled hearing, noting objections, exceptions to rulings, court rulings, closing arguments, etc.
  • Furnish a transcript of the reported evidence or other proceedings per request.
