About The Position

Prisma International, Inc. (Prisma) is a language services provider seeking experienced Court Interpreters to join their independent contractor team. This role involves providing onsite interpreting (OSI) services to the New Hampshire Judicial Branch (NHJB), requiring travel to multiple courthouses across New Hampshire. The position is looking for interpreters proficient in Spanish, Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, Haitian Creole, Nepali, Portuguese, Swahili, and Vietnamese, though applications for other languages are welcome if minimum requirements are met.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in both English and the target language through an approved assessment (e.g., NCSC recognized tests, state judiciary language access program tests, LTI/ACTFL OPI/OPIc, ALTA speaking and listening assessment).
  • Completed training aligning with the NCSC's model curriculum in interpretation techniques, legal and court terminology, and interpreter ethics.
  • Successful completion of the NCSC Written Exam (if available for the non-English language).
  • At least one (1) year of onsite consecutive or simultaneous interpreting experience in a court setting.
  • Two (2) professional references who can confirm your profession as an onsite consecutive or simultaneous court interpreter.
  • Minimum age: Must be 18+ years or older.
  • Minimum education: Must have High School Diploma.
  • Polite forms of expression, enunciation, and a high-level of customer service.
  • Correct grammar, clarity and tones between English and your native language.

  • State Certified - Passed NCSC Oral Exam
  • Professionally Qualified - Passed United Nations or US State Department conference tests
  • State Registered - Passed NCSC Written Exam & Oral Proficiency Interview
  • Strong understanding of NHJB procedures.
  • Professional appearance, polite demeanor and punctual.

Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite interpreting (OSI) services to the New Hampshire Judicial Branch (NHJB).
  • Travel to multiple NHJB court houses in New Hampshire.
  • Undergo annual criminal history and/or state registry background checks.
  • Provide precise documentation of services provided for each session.
  • Deliver correct concepts and meanings between speaker and the Limited English Proficient (LEP) speaker.
  • Manage the flow of a conversation, professionally interject when clarification is needed.
  • Refrain from side conversations with the LEP and entering into any disagreement with the customer or LEP.
  • Comply with applicable ethics and standards.
