About The Position

The Court Interpreter Coordinator supervises and coordinates the day-to-day operation of the Court Interpreters Unit, ensuring language services comply with various legal and administrative standards, including Cleveland Municipal Court Local Rules, Language Access Plan, Ohio Courts Rules of Superintendence, Ohio Revised Code, Department of Justice Guidance, and the Americans with Disabilities Act and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. This role also serves as the Language Access Coordinator, maintaining the Court’s Language Access Plan and influencing the future direction of court interpreter services. Currently, the Court is only considering Supreme Court of Ohio Certified Spanish Interpreters or those who can obtain reciprocity promptly.

Requirements

  • Certified by and in good standing with the Supreme Court of Ohio and maintain continuing education credit hours.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Four years of experience working in a professional capacity as an interpreter in a complex organization with varied assignments and clients.
  • Supervisory skills required.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize duties.
  • Knowledgeable of methods, techniques, and procedures for evaluating interpreters and translators.
  • Experience in interpreting and/or translating methods, techniques, and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of legal terminology, as evidenced by credential.
  • Professional manner in dealing with others.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills such as Microsoft Office applications.
  • Adherence to the Supreme Court of Ohio Code of Professional Conduct for Court Interpreters and Translators.
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License required.

Nice To Haves

  • A degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Court-related or legal experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising and evaluating the Court Interpreter staff.
  • Coordinating services of agencies and independent contractors, processing their invoices.
  • Observing and evaluating interpreters and translators for compliance with the Supreme Court of Ohio Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Interpreting in cases, court functions, and ancillary services (hearings, interviews, weddings, etc.).
  • Addressing and responding to complaints related to service provision.
  • Adhering to the Supreme Court of Ohio Code of Professional Conduct for Court Interpreters and Translators.
  • Attending ongoing training to maintain skills and comply with interpreter CIE requirements, and ensuring staff compliance.
  • Maintaining daily, monthly, and yearly reports of interpreted proceedings.
  • Collecting, interpreting, and analyzing data for statistical records and updating the Court’s Language Access Plan.
  • Monitoring legislation and regulations governing language services.
  • Assembling and maintaining a library of current resources.
  • Participating in strategic planning for the Court Interpreters Unit.
  • Translating or reviewing translations of official forms, documents, signs, notices, and form letters.
  • Training Judges, Magistrates, and court staff on interpreter services.
  • Providing quality service that meets or exceeds public expectations, ensuring courtesy, dignity, and respect.
