About The Position

District Court 14, serving Cumberland County, seeks a qualified candidate to perform a variety of secretarial and administrative tasks for the Chief District Court Judge and other District Court judges in the 14th judicial district. The role involves screening callers and visitors, answering inquiries, securing and giving information, screening and routing mail, scheduling appointments and meetings, making travel arrangements, and maintaining administrative records. The position also includes ordering and distributing office supplies, copying, filing, retrieving materials, and performing periodic follow-up activities. Additionally, the Court Assistant will compose and prepare correspondence, reports, and legal documents, and may prepare and distribute calendars, answer questions regarding case status, and provide support services to other district programs such as arbitration, mediation, or jury management, potentially assisting with jury management operations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of court rules and procedures.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures.
  • Knowledge of grammar and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of word processing.
  • Knowledge of commonly used rules, procedures, or methods to perform assignments.
  • Skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to screen communications and based on content, handle independently or route to proper destination.
  • Ability to apply grammar and punctuation rules.
  • Ability to type with accuracy and speed.
  • Ability to spell accurately.
  • Ability to use judgment in organizing and establishing document format.
  • Ability to give basic information and instructions regarding programs or office based on inquiries.
  • Ability to operate office equipment such as copier, calculator, fax machine, computer, and telephones.
  • Graduation from high school and two (2) years of experience as a legal secretary or paralegal; or an associate degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
