About The Position

The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is seeking a detail-oriented and self-starting individual to serve as a Court Assets Customer Service Representative, acting as the Cash Bail Customer Service liaison. This position requires significant customer interaction, exceptional customer service skills, and technological savviness. The role involves managing and safeguarding court funds, recording court deposits, and ensuring the timely and accurate disbursement of funds. The Court Assets Unit also prepares the annual abandonment of unclaimed court funds to New York State and works closely with various external entities. The selected candidate will report directly to the Bail Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must have a permanent Principal Administrative Associate Civil Service title, be reachable on the Principal Administrative Associate Civil Service Exam No. 1128, or be permanent in a comparable Civil Service title eligible for a 6.1.9 title change.
  • Include Employee Identification Number (EIN) when applying.
  • Indicate permanent Civil Service title or list number for Exam No. 1128 in the cover letter.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty.
  • OR An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described above.
  • OR A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience as described above.
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above, but all candidates must possess the one year of administrative or supervisory experience.
  • Education above the high school level may be substituted for the general clerical/administrative experience (but not for the one year of administrative or supervisory experience) at a rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 3½ years.
  • Must be able to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Must complete required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison between the Court Assets Unit and the public at the Manhattan Business Center window, providing exceptional community services to improve communication.
  • Respond to daily customer service telephone inquiries from courts, attorneys, sureties, and the public.
  • Assist the public with the completion and submission of Cash Bail forms.
  • Assist the Cash Bail community with locating sureties and bail forms.
  • Educate the Cash Bail community on various Cash Bail processes.
  • Review, process, and file all incoming Cash Bail forms.
  • Open and date-stamp incoming Court Assets mail.
  • Scan and record receipt of incoming mail into the mail database.
  • Assist customers with Return Checks and Check Pick-ups.
  • Maintain and organize the file room for easy retrieval of Cash Bail case folders.
