This role is responsible for making deliveries to specific departments, facilities, drop-sites, offices, or persons, and picking up items for immediate, next day, or future delivery. The Courier must maintain a courteous flow of communication with phlebotomists, nurses, and customers, and refrain from discussing patient information outside the Laboratory. Additional duties include scanning, centrifuging, and data entry. The position requires knowledge of specimen preservation and handling, including non-blood specimens. The Courier is expected to continuously improve operations, decrease turnaround time, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively to provide quality customer service. They should suggest changes to improve customer service and communicate schedule changes to their supervisor. Responsiveness to requests for information, care, or service in a timely and polite manner is essential. The Courier must represent TridentCare positively in all communications and adhere to the dress code and identification badge policy. They must inform their supervisor of any requests that cannot be handled promptly and report any accidents or injuries immediately in writing. Cooperation with institution-wide programs and projects is expected, as is maintaining personal behavior consistent with a clean, quiet, and respectful environment. Adherence to work attendance policies, including punctuality and consistent attendance, is required. The Courier will also perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. This role also involves following established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples, properly identifying patients, ensuring specimens are correctly labeled and accompanied by a completed requisition, and following policies on transporting PHI. Planning and organizing draw schedules with attention to patient priority, completing written logs and time sheets accurately, and working cooperatively with dispatch, payroll, laboratory, and courier departments are also key responsibilities. Maintaining equipment in good working order and reporting problems immediately to the Area Phlebotomy Supervisor is necessary. The Courier must answer their company-issued mobile device promptly when on duty and notify dispatch of their availability for future assignments.
