About The Position

The Courier is responsible for making deliveries to specific departments, facilities, drop-sites, offices, or persons, and picking up items from designated locations for immediate, next day, or future delivery. This role requires maintaining a courteous flow of communication with phlebotomists, nurses, and customers, and adhering to strict confidentiality regarding patient information outside the Laboratory. The position also involves additional duties such as scanning, centrifuging, and data entry, along with a strong understanding of specimen preservation and handling, including non-blood specimens. The Courier is expected to continuously improve operations, decrease turnaround time, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively to provide quality customer service. They should suggest improvements to their supervisor and communicate any schedule changes. Responsiveness to requests for information, care, or service in a timely and polite manner is essential, as is representing the organization positively in all interactions. Adherence to dress code, proper identification, and reporting of accidents/injuries are also key responsibilities. The role demands maintaining personal behavior consistent with a clean, quiet, and respectful environment and following work attendance policies with consistent punctuality.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record and ability to drive safely.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for communication with medical and laboratory personnel.
  • Previous courier or driving experience.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of safe motor vehicle operation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in motor vehicle operation.

Responsibilities

  • Makes deliveries to specific departments, facilities, drop-sites, offices, or persons.
  • Picks up items from designated facilities, drop-sites, offices, or persons for immediate, next day, or future delivery.
  • Maintains a courteous flow of communication with phlebotomists/nurses/customers.
  • Performs additional duties such as scanning, centrifuging, and data entry.
  • Refrains from any discussion of patient information outside the Laboratory.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of required specimen preservation and handling, including picking up of non-blood specimens.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround time, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Suggests changes to supervisor or appropriate staff members to improve customer service and communicates any changes in schedules.
  • Responds to requests for information, care, or service in a timely and polite manner.
  • Works with others in a respectful, cooperative manner and exhibits warmth, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Represents Diagnostic Laboratories positively in each communication with patients, families, physicians, other employees, and contacts outside the Laboratory.
  • Adheres to dress code and wears proper identification badge at all times.
  • Informs immediate supervisor of requests that cannot be handled in a timely manner.
  • Informs appropriate staff of any accidents and/or injuries immediately in written form.
  • Cooperates with others in institution-wide programs and projects as assigned.
  • Maintains personal behavior consistent with a clean, quiet, respectful environment.
  • Follows work attendance policies; maintains consistent attendance and punctuality with no unscheduled absences.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
