About The Position

This position is for the Blood Services department and involves supporting transportation needs surrounding blood drives. The schedule is highly variable, based on blood drive schedules and department needs, but is generally known three weeks in advance. The role involves learning policies and processes in Transportation, receiving, transporting, and delivering lab specimens, reports, and supplies in a timely and professional manner. ARUP Laboratories is a national clinical and anatomic pathology reference laboratory and an enterprise of the University of Utah and its Department of Pathology. Requirements

  • Must be 21 years old.
  • Valid Utah Driver’s License.
  • No moving violations within the previous two years.
  • No alcohol/drug-related violations on record with the Driver’s License Division.
  • Ability to pass a physical examination to obtain a Department of Transportation Medical Card.
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.
  • PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
  • ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Safely deliver collected blood units from the mobile drives back to the Donor Center, ensuring proper handling.
  • Help to process blood units as needed.
  • Retrieve and deliver supplies to blood drive locations.
  • Help load and unload equipment and set-up and take-down of the blood drive.
  • Ensure vehicles are current on maintenance and kept clean.
  • Responsible for taking the vehicles to be maintained.
  • Follow safety protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.
