About The Position

This position involves driving throughout the city and surrounding areas to ensure the timely pickup and delivery of laboratory specimens, supplies, and other items to and from the Hospital. The role requires reviewing specimen request information for accuracy and proper packaging, assisting with sorting client reports and deliveries by specimen type and department. A daily activity record must be maintained, detailing trips, destinations, times, and requests. The courier will also safely transport medical specimens and biohazard materials in accordance with regulations, follow established procedures for packaging, labeling, and handling, and maintain vehicle cleanliness. Accurate and timely documentation is essential, as is effective communication with team members and clients. Adherence to traffic laws and safe driving practices is mandatory.

Requirements

HS grad or GED Equivalent.
A valid Indiana Operator's license and a good driving history.
Understanding of the traffic laws of the state of Indiana.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Strong customer service skills.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 to 75 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, and drive for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities

Drives throughout the city and surrounding areas ensuring timely pickup and delivery of laboratory specimens, supplies and other items to and from the Hospital.
Reviews the client's specimen request information for accuracy and proper packaging.
Assists with sorting of client reports.
Assists with sorting of deliveries according to specimen type and department required.
Keeps a daily activity record indicating number of trips, destination, arrival/departure times and the number of requests.
Safely transport medical specimens and biohazard materials in accordance with all applicable regulations and guidelines.
Follow established procedures for packaging, labeling, and handling of materials to ensure compliance with safety standards.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of vehicle to prevent contamination and ensure safe transport.
Complete required documentation and paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
Communicate effectively with team members and clients to coordinate deliveries and pick-ups.
Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations to always ensure safe driving practices.
Ability to cover routes during the week if available.
