Requirements

  • Associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of nursing experience
  • Completion of a PHN course within one year of hire
  • Current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license
  • CPR certification

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Experience in public health nursing, immunization services, infectious disease testing, specimen collection, and emergency response activities.
  • Experience working in a public health or community healthcare setting
  • Familiarity with clinical protocols, electronic health records, and documentation standards

Responsibilities

  • Under limited supervision, provides advanced professional nursing services within a County Public Health Department.
  • Delivers population-based nursing care and supports the daily operations of assigned clinical and public health programs in accordance with established nursing protocols and public health standards.
  • Assesses client and community health needs; provides direct patient care; assists with coordination of clinical services; and collaborates with internal teams, external healthcare providers, and local government partners to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Develops clinic schedules and supervises staff.
  • Participates in emergency preparedness activities, including mass clinics and response efforts during declared public health emergencies.
  • Work performed requires independent professional judgment, advanced clinical knowledge, and experience in public health nursing.
  • Duties may include collection of COVID-19 and other infectious disease specimens using approved collection methods, as well as administration of vaccinations and additional clinical services related to declared public health emergencies, in accordance with established protocols.
