About The Position

As a County Caseworker 1 with Mifflin County Children & Youth, you will take part in meaningful work that helps protect children and strengthen families. You will support child safety and family stability while working closely with parents, children, and service providers.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license which is not under suspension.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.
  • Satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.

  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct visits and reviews to understand family needs and ensure child safety
  • Connect families with providers who can offer support and treatment
  • Carry out CPS investigations to address concerns and protect children
  • Help families build goals that strengthen stability and reduce the need for placement
  • Track family progress and adjust plans to support reunification when possible
  • Assist in creating long term plans such as adoption or SPLC when reunification is not possible
