About The Position

Establishes or improves relationships with customers to better understand sales territory, schedules, and customer needs by phone and customer visits. Interviews customers to determine the appropriate product desired either by phone or at the company facility and records information into the computer for product delivery. Warehouse responsibilities include shipping, receiving, inventory control, and order pulling. The role involves communicating with customers by phone or in person to receive orders for products, soliciting sales of new or additional products, and practicing good interpersonal relations with tact, courtesy, a positive attitude, and pleasant telephone etiquette. This position acts as a liaison between the customer and various departments, including credit, purchasing, warehouse, outside sales, and management. The representative determines the make, type, and quality of merchandise desired by being familiar with products, their uses, vendors, warehouse locations, and catalog information. They identify and use appropriate pricing systems, make phone calls to solicit orders, describe or demonstrate products, and compile lists of prospective customers. The role includes providing quotations or estimates of prices, terms, and delivery, preparing sales tickets, following up on record-keeping requirements, estimating delivery dates, purchasing materials, and reviewing customer complaints, referring them to the appropriate departments for resolution. Correspondence and reports necessary for business transactions are also prepared. The representative recognizes when special pricing is required and provides competitive pricing, follows up on all quotations, and handles customer difficulties with diplomacy, seeking assistance when needed to resolve issues promptly. Acquiring, using, and continuously developing personal technical knowledge of merchandise is essential to assist customers and other company personnel. Warehouse responsibilities include shipping, receiving, inventory control, and order pulling. Other responsibilities may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from small groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to perform math functions representative of the job such as; addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and metric scales; computing rate, ratio, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs; calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and proportions.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of QED computer systems, Microsoft Office, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with customers by phone or in person to receive orders for products.
  • Solicit sales of new or additional products.
  • Practice good interpersonal relations, using tact, courtesy, a positive attitude toward customers and co-workers, pleasant telephone etiquette, and a general attitude as a representative of goodwill on behalf of the company.
  • Act as a liaison between the customer and QED departments, including credit, purchasing, warehouse, outside sales, and management.
  • Determine the make, type, and quality of merchandise desired by being familiar with products sold in the department by use, vendor, location in warehouse, catalog and catalog number, other reference materials, and special selling points.
  • Identify and use appropriate company and/or customer pricing systems.
  • Make phone calls to regular and prospective customers to solicit orders.
  • Describe or demonstrate product, using samples or catalog, and emphasize salable features.
  • Compile lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads.
  • Provide oral and written quotations or estimates of prices, terms, and delivery for standard, complex, or non-standard merchandise.
  • Prepare cash or charge sales tickets with required identification, necessary information for customer, merchandise, price, and sales tax status for processing, shipment, and delivery of merchandise in a timely manner.
  • Follow up with any specific record-keeping requirements.
  • Estimate date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of own firm's delivery schedules.
  • Purchase materials following approved purchasing procedures.
  • Review complaints concerning billing or products sold, referring complaints to designated departments for investigation and resolution.
  • Prepare correspondence and reports necessary for business transactions.
  • Recognize when special pricing is required, and provide competitive pricing.
  • Follow up on all quotations in an attempt to write the order, or receive input for use in future quotations.
  • Handle difficulties with customers with diplomacy and seek assistance when needed, to resolve customer order problems and complaints promptly.
  • Acquire, use, and continuously develop personal technical knowledge of general and specialty merchandise items to assist customers and other company personnel.
  • Perform warehouse responsibilities including: shipping, receiving, inventory control and order pulling.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
