About The Position

Mead Lumber Company is a leading provider of products for professional contractors, builders, and remodelers, with over 50 operating locations across nine Midwestern states. As a Counter Sales Associate, you will be a key part of the sales team, directly assisting contractors, builders, and walk-in customers with their building material needs. This role involves understanding customer requirements, recommending suitable products, and driving sales both in person at the sales counter and over the phone. You will also be responsible for processing transactions, managing inventory, and maintaining a professional and organized sales environment.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-first attitude
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving and multitasking abilities
  • Capable of safely lifting and carrying materials up to 50 lbs. throughout the workday
  • Basic math and computer skills required

Nice To Haves

  • Prior sales experience in construction or building materials is a plus
  • Construction knowledge or hands-on building experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Engage with customers at the sales counter and over the phone to understand their needs and recommend appropriate building materials and solutions
  • Prepare quotes, process orders, and follow up to ensure customer satisfaction and repeat business
  • Develop strong product knowledge to confidently answer questions and offer recommendations
  • Build and maintain relationships with contractors, builders, and repeat customers
  • Handle inquiries, resolve issues, and process returns with professionalism and efficiency
  • Collaborate with warehouse and yard teams to ensure accurate order fulfillment and timely delivery
  • Support merchandising, stocking, and pricing of products in the sales area
  • Stay informed about new products, promotions, and industry trends
