Requirements

  • Master's Degree and appropriate state licensure in Marriage and Family Therapy, Licensed Professional Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or related field of study is required.
  • Demonstrate a capacity for and interest to absorb a global knowledge of medical and clinical rehabilitation aspects relating to traumatic brain injury.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of experience in acute care or rehabilitation is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides counseling and guidance to patients and family members as a part of total patient care. Ability to communicate with people of different backgrounds and abilities is required.
  • Tests and evaluates patients. The major focal areas are adjustment to disability, self-worth, motivation, family issues, transitional reactions, sexuality, and social behavior. Requires visual and auditory ability to administer tests.
  • Sets counseling goals and management plans for assigned patients and develops and implements an individual treatment program for each assigned patient. Reviews and revises programs as deemed necessary. Requires ability to make decisions based on patients' needs. Must be able to evaluate situations as they occur and act upon the best solution for the good of staff, patients and self.
  • Assists patients' families with the adjustment process. Actively involves the families in the family therapy as well as the patients' rehabilitation. Ability to hear, understand and communicate with people of various backgrounds and ability levels.
  • Performs reporting procedures.
