About The Position

The Counselor provides outpatient services for persons with an alcohol or drug problem. This role involves providing professional counseling services to patients and their families through individual and/or group settings, conducting lectures, and participating in community outreach activities. The Counselor will identify concerns, make referrals to other specialists when needed, and document assessments, care provided, treatment plans, and data collection appropriately in the Addiction Recovery patient record. This position also offers educational support to the program and participates in marketing activities of Addiction Recovery to the hospital, clinic, other health professionals, and the general community. The Counselor provides assessments for patients with diagnostic impressions and treatment recommendations, supports patients seeking help to become abstinent from substances, teaches patients about the disease of addiction, its signs and symptoms, and helps patients identify resources in their community that support ongoing abstinence. Additionally, the Counselor teaches family members and loved ones about addiction disease and their role in the recovery process.

Requirements

  • Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor (CADC) - Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association (IAODAPCA)
  • Associate's Degree: Related Field
  • Chemical dependency treatment counseling

Responsibilities

  • Helps patients identify resources in their community which support ongoing abstinence.
  • Teaches family members and loved ones about addiction disease and what their part is in the recovery process.
