About The Position

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Counselor at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) will provide vital support to Civil Servant and Contractor employees. This role involves delivering comprehensive therapeutic services, including clinical assessments, brief counseling for individuals and families, and crisis intervention. The counselor will also coordinate specialized external treatment, facilitate mental health educational workshops, and contribute to EAP outreach and program development. The position requires adherence to professional documentation standards, maintenance of LPC-I licensure through clinical supervision, and commitment to institutional safety and quality assurance protocols. The counselor will work collaboratively with the EAP Director and NASA JSC workforce, contributing to the success and safety of NASA's spaceflight goals and missions.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in counseling or clinical psychology
  • Skill in crisis intervention, solution-focused brief therapy
  • LPC licensure
  • Demonstrated project and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated success at working well with others in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Interpersonal effectiveness, professionalism, and courtesy in dealings with clients, co-workers and other JSC personnel.
  • Ability to effectively attend to, and prioritize, duties and critical assignments during periods of peak workload and compressed deadlines.
  • Demonstrated technical writing ability.
  • Familiarity with Office365, willingness to learn electronic medical record software for client charting.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication and presentation skills, and able to present information to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to changing requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with purpose of critical incident stress debriefing
  • Pre-graduate training in group dynamics
  • Ability to work within a technical, engineering organization

Responsibilities

  • Provide brief therapeutic interventions, including assessments and individual, marital, and family counseling.
  • Manage caseloads and coordinate care with external providers for clients requiring specialized or long-term treatment.
  • Facilitate clinical staffing and consultations to ensure high-quality patient care and case management.
  • Complete training in crisis intervention and critical incident stress debriefing (CISD).
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and reports in compliance with program standards.
  • Design and deliver mental health presentations, seminars, and workshops for NASA Johnson Space Center personnel.
  • Support EAP outreach and quality assurance initiatives, assisting in resource and program development.
  • Collaborate on JSC and Agency-wide efforts to enhance EAP services and community engagement.
  • Maintain LPC licensure and fulfill all continuing education requirements.
  • Adhere to all Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality Assurance plans, ensuring a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Complete all required training and maintain professional attendance standards.
