About The Position

The Counselor acts as case manager/counselor for assigned clients. This role involves conducting in-patient process groups, lectures, individual and family sessions, preparing progress notes and discharge summaries, and formulating Health & Recovery Plans. The Counselor also handles intake calls and assessments in the absence of the Intake Specialist, coordinates client care with clinical staff and medical professionals, and assists with client medication, medical appointments, and post-discharge planning. Additionally, the role may involve supervising intern counselors, contributing to treatment program goals, providing outreach lectures, maintaining patient records, and supervising medication documentation. The Counselor is authorized to arrange client transportation and attends staff and clinical meetings. Other duties may be assigned by the Director of Clinical Services.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in counseling or related field of study.
  • CCGC / LPC / LCSW status current or in process of completion.
  • Pre-Employment negative drug screen and background check.
  • Free from TB and verified by annual skin test by CORE.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts in-patient process groups, lectures, individual and family sessions with clients.
  • Prepare educational, group and individual progress notes on each client within 24 hours and 48 if PT (if needed).
  • Prepares and completes discharge summaries on assigned clients within 72 hours.
  • Works with assigned clients to formulate a Health & Recovery Plan and coordinate continued support services such as a counselor, GA meetings, sponsor, etc.
  • Receives intake calls in the absence of the Intake Specialist, fills out necessary paperwork, and notifies Intake Specialist of the intake.
  • Performs intake interviews and client assessments to determine the needs and severity of the gambling addiction for each potential client if the Intake Specialist is unavailable.
  • Meets individually with each assigned client to go over treatment plan and objectives.
  • Completes the assessment on assigned clients within 72 hours of admission.
  • Coordinates client information on a daily and weekly basis with the rest of the clinical staff.
  • Coordinates with the medical doctor and contract RN on patient care issues.
  • Assists with pick up of client medication as authorized by the contract nurse or director.
  • Assists assigned clients with medical appointments and finding housing after discharge, if required.
  • Assists in supervision of intern counselors by co-facilitating/shadowing in group, assigning client tasks such as initial assessments, etc.
  • Assists the rest of the clinical staff in planning and formulating treatment goals and objectives for the overall therapy program.
  • Provides outreach lectures when requested by Director of Clinical Services.
  • Maintains assigned patient records and ensures they meet clinical guidelines.
  • Supervises the updating and creation of educational, step, and relapse prevention materials for use in treatment.
  • Supervises and documents all medications taken by clients.
  • Is authorized to call, charge, and schedule bus transportation for clients for admit and/or discharge.
  • Attend staff and clinical meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Clinical Services and/or designee.
