About The Position

Seattle University is seeking a Counselor for its One Stop SERVICES. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Student Contact and Communication and serves as the primary point of contact for students, prospective students, and family members regarding financial aid and student account inquiries. The role involves providing customer service and counseling through various communication channels, including phone, in-person, email, and virtual appointments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of two years of experience working in a Financial Aid/Student Account office, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to strong customer service.
  • Ability to resolve complex problems through creative reasoning and logic.
  • Skills to counsel individuals and families in financial aid and student accounts matters.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with staff and other departments.
  • Desktop PC, ERP system, and Microsoft Office Suite experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information clearly and accurately in writing, orally, and through reports.

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years working in a Financial Aid/Student Accounts Office.
  • Prior experience using the Ellucian Colleague ERP.
  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Assist students and families with financial aid application questions, including FAFSA eligibility and completion.
  • Explain financial aid packages, award timing, and types of loans (federal, state, private).
  • Guide students through the financial aid verification process and required documentation.
  • Explain satisfactory academic progress, requirements, and appeal processes.
  • Assist with financial aid special circumstance appeals and decision-making processes.
  • Inform students about their rights and responsibilities in the financial aid process.
  • Answer general financial aid questions within a 5-7 minute timeframe.
  • Provide information on scholarships, grants, and eligibility maintenance for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Provide information on federal and state grant qualifications.
  • Inform and assist with payment and financing options, payment plans, refunds, billing schedules, account balances, lost checks, waiver requests, 1098-T forms, paid receipts, and holds.
  • Counsel students, prospective students, and family members on educational finance options.
  • Assist students, prospective students, and families with online services such as MySeattleU, FAFSA, and the studentaid.gov website.
