About The Position

Shields Middle School is in need of a Counselor for 25-26 school year. Must have ACTIVE application. Summary: The Counselor, Middle School, is responsible for coordinating and implementing a comprehensive school counseling program to include academic advisement, personal/social counseling, career development, and parent/community involvement. Requirements

Florida Professional Educator Certificate: Guidance and Counseling (Grades PK-12) is required.
Reads, analyzes, and interprets all kinds of documents.
Responds to inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or community.
Writes speeches and effectively presents to managers, the public, and school board.
Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Computes rate, ratio, and percent and draws and interprets bar graphs.
Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Microsoft Office.
Standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing.
Up to 10 pounds.
Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.
This position requires traveling to various school sites, work locations and/or community organizations throughout the district.

Responsibilities

Provides an ongoing program of individual, small group, and large group counseling services in the areas of academic advisement, career awareness, and social/personal development per the national standards established by the American School Counselor Association.
Consults and works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, school personnel, district personnel, parents, and various community agencies to meet the counseling and educational planning needs of middle school students, including schoolwide needs.
Interprets and utilizes school records, including cognitive, aptitude, and achievement tests, for educational planning. Reviews and evaluates student records and transcripts.
Addresses individual student needs and refers students to appropriate school and community resources as necessary.
Provides preventive and responsive services, including crisis counseling as needed, and addresses student mental health needs as appropriate.
Facilitates the involvement of parents in the education of their students, including assisting in parent/teacher/counselor conferences.
Assists students in developing self-understanding, self-acceptance, and effective interpersonal skills.
Provides information about appropriate community resources.
Performs any other duties as assigned.
