About The Position

The Counselor Intern coordinates and provides individualized case management, group therapy, and biopsychosocial assessment and counseling services for clients at the facility. The role includes case management, developing client resources, vocational counseling, discharge and continuing-care planning, and client placement. The Counselor Intern maintains communication with referral sources and other service providers as needed and serves as a liaison with the Utilization Review (UR) Department on client-care matters. While working toward CADC certification, the intern must attend weekly one-on-one supervision. The position supports the organization’s goal of providing comprehensive, compassionate care to adults with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders.

Requirements

Be studying for drug and alcohol counseling certification at an accredited institution.
Ability to work effectively with people and help them adjust to their specific problems.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, family members, and staff.
Knowledge and experience in running groups, meetings, and/or activities.
Ability to read and interpret written information and write clearly and informatively, including editing work for spelling and grammar.
Ability to speak clearly and persuasively, listen and obtain clarification, respond well to questions, demonstrate group presentation skills, and participate in meetings.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google products.

Nice To Haves

Two years of experience working in a substance abuse environment is preferred.

Responsibilities
