About The Position

The Counselor I is responsible for the delivery of face-to-face rehabilitative programming services provided in the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDTP). This role involves delivering treatment programming services to participants, conducting group and/or individual sessions, and implementing scheduled program curriculum as required by contract. The counselor will lead and participate in face-to-face group and individual meetings using therapeutic processes such as motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy. They will engage participants daily, reinforce group rules and expectations, and work directly with participants to develop and implement treatment/action plans. Additionally, the Counselor I will educate participants about supportive networks for their return to the community, review treatment plans, evaluate and record treatment progress, and document visible changes in participants' appearance, behavior, and demeanor. Maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential participant records is crucial, as is summarizing participants' backgrounds, treatment plans, and recovery process outcomes. The role also includes preparing reports and plans consistent with Amity standards and applicable clinical/administrative rules, and liaising with transition/reentry staff to prepare transitional documents for continued community program activities. Collaboration with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS, and institution staff, as well as co-faculty, is expected.

Requirements

• Less than one (1) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; OR
• Registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS, enrolled in AOD education classes, and six (6) months of experience providing CBI services.
• Current AOD Certification with organization recognized by the DHCS OR Registration with BBS or AOD certifying body; depending on education level.
• Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse; appreciation for the behavioral, psychological, physical and social effects of drug abuse.
• Knowledge of contractual requirements of ISUDTP is essential.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills.
• Operational knowledge of MS Office Suite and ARMS.
• Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures generated by association with substance abuse treatment participants.
• Demonstrate ethical behavior in order to maintain professional standards and safeguard the participants.
• Protect and maintain program participants’ health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information.

• Prepares accurate, concise, informative reports, records and plans that are consistent with Amity standards, and complies with applicable clinical and administrative rules.
• Liaise with transition/reentry staff, plans and prepares transitional documents as directed by CDCR for continued community program activities.
• Works collaboratively with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS and institution staff.
• Supports and collaborates co-faculty, including but not limited to Supervisors, Directors and Regional Directors.
• Other duties as assigned.
