About The Position

The Substance Use Family Navigator supports families with loved ones who are using substances. This support is provided through one-to-one coaching, Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) groups, educational sessions, and resources/referrals to community or clinical supports. The Family Navigator is an integral part of the Behavioral Health team, playing a crucial role in fostering recovery and stability for youth, young adults, and their families.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a human services field.
  • Licensed with the State of Washington as a Substance Use Disorder Professional or Trainee.
  • Trained in CRAFT.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MS365 Power Platform.
  • Must satisfactorily pass a criminal history check and complete a WATCH background check.
  • Must satisfactorily pass a tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid Washington State driver’s license (or be able to obtain one by the date of employment).
  • Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles on Friends of Youth business must have a safe driving record as defined by Friends of Youth.
  • Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s) on Friends of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that complies with the requirements of Friends of Youth.
  • Must successfully complete the following health certification requirements within 30 days of employment: CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Ability to engage with diverse populations in a culturally responsive manner.

  • Ability to learn and implement relevant Council on Accreditation (COA) standards and participate in Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) processes.
  • Proficient skill set with Microsoft Office programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide services to families and assist them with navigating the behavioral health system, regardless of the participation or engagement of their loved one in treatment or care.
  • Offer services separately to the family’s loved one (i.e., client, patient) if participation would be mutually beneficial for both parties, when applicable.
  • Utilize the evidence-based CRAFT and Family Training curriculum.
  • Provide, at a minimum, two CRAFT groups per week.
  • Administer substance use assessments and provide individual and group counseling sessions in accordance with ASAM levels of care, as needed.
  • Diagnose substance use conditions in accordance with the most recently published Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), as needed.
  • Conduct urinary drug screenings to monitor client progress and inform treatment planning, as needed.
  • Attend a virtual monthly CRAFT Facilitator Consultation session.
  • Administer surveys at monthly intervals to program participants.
  • Attend weekly or bi-weekly individual meetings with the Clinical Manager to review cases.
  • Participate in employee case consultations and division meetings.
  • Maintain awareness of the divisions within the agency and its internal resources.
  • Maintain case records in an accurate and timely manner per all WAC, COA, Medicaid, and King County requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external providers to support families navigating the behavioral health system.
