About The Position

FIREFLY is seeking a regular, full-time Counsellor to join their team. In this role, the Counsellor will provide meaningful, evidence-informed mental health services while working as part of a collaborative and supportive interdisciplinary team dedicated to strengthening the well-being of children, youth, and families across Northwestern Ontario. FIREFLY is a multi-service, non-profit organization committed to strengthening the health and well-being of children, youth, and families. They provide mental health, developmental, and community services across Northwestern Ontario in partnership with families, schools, child care centres, and community organizations.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in Human Services is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be a member in good standing with a College recognized by the Psychotherapy Act, 2007.
  • Valid Driver's Licence and ability to travel throughout Northwestern Ontario
  • Clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector screen
  • Ability to maintain a reasonable caseload through effective prioritization and follow-up.
  • Commitment to teamwork while working independently.
  • Ability to manage conflict, solve problems, and exercise sound professional judgement.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality services and maintaining professional standards.
  • Commitment to promoting and following FIREFLY's health and safety practices.
  • Ability to establish therapeutic relationships with children, youth, and families.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development, systems theory, family dynamics and the clinical assessment process.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive approaches to care.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention, risk assessment, and safety planning.
  • Strong clinical judgement, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and case management skills.
  • Cultural humility and commitment to reconciliation and inclusive service delivery.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s or Graduate degree in a Human Services field is preferred.
  • Experience providing counselling services to children, youth, and families is considered an asset.
  • Experience working within community-based mental health services is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in French would be an asset.
  • Understanding of Indigenous communities and culture is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, family, and group counselling services using evidence-informed, culturally safe, and client-centered approaches.
  • Complete clinical assessments, develop intervention plans, and implement therapeutic strategies tailored to client and family needs.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary team members, community partners, and service providers to support integrated care.
  • Deliver services in a variety of settings including in-office, schools, community locations, and virtually.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with agency and ministry standards.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, clinical supervision, and reflective practice.
  • Contribute to service planning, program development, and quality improvement initiatives.
