About The Position

Canopy Children's Solutions, founded in 1912, is Mississippi's most comprehensive nonprofit provider of children’s behavioral health, educational, and family support solutions. We are a Great Place to Work® certified organization committed to honoring the voice of Mississippi children and families. This internship offers the opportunity to assist in delivering mental health services, including individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, and substance abuse treatment. Interns will gain hands-on experience with targeted clinical interventions, assessments, and case documentation. The role requires excellent oral and written communication skills, maturity, self-motivation, and comfort working with diverse families. Interns will integrate into an inclusive and passionate team dedicated to helping kids thrive and families overcome challenges. This is an unpaid internship for academic credit only.

Requirements

  • Current students enrolled in a Mental Health Counseling, Social Work or related degree program.
  • Must be enrolled, and in good academic standing, with an accredited academic institution at time of internship.
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills.
  • Maturity.
  • Self-motivation.
  • Comfortable working with families with diverse needs.
  • Ability to integrate into our vibrantly inclusive and passionate team.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 100-hour commitment unless stated otherwise in contract.
  • Students must satisfactorily complete goals as outlined by university affiliates and their assigned site supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the delivery of mental health services such as individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, substance abuse treatment and more, depending on the internship placement.
  • Gaining first-hand, targeted clinical interventions based on the client's specific needs.
  • Experiencing various assessments and plans.
  • Completing case documentation.
