About The Position

PG&E is seeking a highly skilled Counsel with a minimum of 3 years of substantive litigation experience to join our dynamic litigation team. This role reports to the Managing Counsel of Litigation and Claims and involves providing legal advice, counsel, and representation throughout all stages of litigation. The successful candidate will handle a variety of disputes and proceedings, with an emphasis on real property and land-related litigation, including easement disputes, eminent domain and inverse condemnation matters, rights-of-way issues, and other property-related claims, in addition to broader litigation matters. You will be responsible for managing your own docket of cases through resolution as well as partnering with outside counsel where appropriate. This position offers an opportunity to leverage your litigation and case management expertise to make a significant impact. This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business needs or company requirements. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory and will be agreed upon by the successful candidate and hiring leader.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Law Bar Admission, U.S.
  • U.S. state bar active member in good standing
  • Legal experience, post-JD-Juris Doctor, or other job related, 6 years.
  • Experience as Litigation Attorney 3 years

  • Litigation experience at the trial level and/or appellate level in state and/or federal courts
  • Experience selecting and overseeing outside counsel, consultants, and/or experts
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including competency in developing and delivering communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences
  • Experience litigating real property disputes, including easements, rights-of-way, eminent domain, inverse condemnation, quiet title, boundary, or access disputes.
  • Experience in civil litigation in a variety of fields which could include personal injury, premises liability, motor vehicle cases, asbestos, construction disputes and delay claims, or breach of contract.
  • Ability to manage support staff such as paralegals and claims investigators

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and coordinate fact investigations, analyze legal issues, and develop litigation and resolution strategies for a range of litigation matters and claims.
  • Manage litigation and pre-litigation matters and activities including preparing or reviewing motions, briefs, and pleadings, deposition prep, court appearances, argument, mediation, and trial.
  • Manage eDiscovery processes, including preservation, legal hold, and the use of eDiscovery platforms such as Relativity.
  • Utilize approved AI tools to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of litigation and eDiscovery tasks.
  • Tender claims to insurance carriers and manage the coordination of coverage and defense under applicable insurance policies.
  • Select, supervise, and partner with outside counsel on select matters or issues.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with broader legal team of attorneys, paralegals, claims investigators, and internal subject matter experts.
  • Develop and manage legal matter budgets and costs for outside counsel, consultants, experts, and eDiscovery.
  • Provide advice and counsel to business units on legal and litigation risks.
  • Communicate with PG&E’s management and leadership concerning key legal issues and the strategy and status of litigation, disputes, and recommended resolution.
  • Collaborate and assist other attorneys in the Litigation team and Law Department on complex legal issues and litigation matters.
  • Identify and owns lessons learned from litigation to improve safety learnings within the company.
