About The Position

As a member of Centuri’s Office of the General Counsel, you will support all business units and subsidiaries by providing leadership and direction that will mitigate the Company’s exposure in the context of legal issues and compliance requirements. You will report to the Associate General Counsel, Senior Director of Contract Administration. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with a litigation or dispute resolution background who is interested in expanding their experience. The candidate will be located in Phoenix, Houston, Chicago (Naperville), or VA (Manassas) and follows a hybrid work schedule.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree is required
  • 4 years of experience as a practicing attorney in a law firm setting
  • Litigation experience handling claims or disputes from intake through resolution, ideally in construction, infrastructure, or a related industry.
  • Contract review, drafting and negotiation experience
  • Familiarity reviewing and analyzing project and contract documentation to evaluate claim merits and exposure
  • Experience drafting demand letters and substantive claim correspondence
  • Courtroom and hearing experience, including witness preparation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage a high volume of matters independently.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze various contracts, agreements, and legal documents to ensure compliance with company policies and applicable laws
  • Draft, edit, and negotiate contracts, including subcontracts, vendor agreements, and customer contracts
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on contractual matters, risk management, and compliance issues
  • Serve as the internal intake for active project claims across the Company's subsidiaries.
  • Review and analyze project documentation relevant to claims — contracts, change orders, daily reports, schedules, correspondence, and pay applications — to assess merits, exposure, and defenses.
  • Draft, issue, and respond to demand letters, notices, and related claim correspondence across all claim types.
  • Partner with Risk Management to oversee insured litigation, including tendering claims coordinating with insurer-appointed defense counsel.
  • Manage and direct outside counsel on non-insured litigation, including setting strategy, controlling budgets, and holding counsel accountable to case milestones.
  • Appear at hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials on behalf of the Company and its subsidiaries.
  • Prepare and support fact and corporate witnesses for depositions, hearings, and trial.
  • Identify recurring claim trends and root causes, and surface recommendations to mitigate future exposure.
  • Perform legal research concerning miscellaneous legal issues in the various jurisdictions in which the Company operates
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address legal concerns and ensure business objectives are met
  • Conduct due diligence on legal issues related to potential business transactions and partnerships
  • Stay updated on relevant laws and industry regulations affecting the company's operations
  • Perform other responsibilities as requested by leadership
