About The Position

Western State Hospital, part of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), is seeking a COTA Therapy Assistant. This role will implement psychosocial programs designed to promote and maintain health, reinforce, restore, and enhance task performance. The hospital is a 302-bed Joint Commission/CMS-accredited psychiatric facility located in the scenic Shenandoah Valley, serving adults with serious mental health needs and recognized for its Psychosocial Rehabilitation “Learning” programs. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited occupational therapy assistant program
  • Experience in patient care
  • Licensed by the Virginia Board

Responsibilities

  • Conducts and co-facilitates up to 4 hours of psychosocial rehabilitation interventions per day across various learning centers and assigned PCU per COVID-19 protocols.
  • Ensures that interventions are appropriate to individual client’s ages, interests, and abilities as reflected by assessment data.
  • Completes assigned documentation according to facility and departmental guidelines.
  • Attends a minimum of 6 PSR staff development sessions per year.
  • Conducts at least one satisfaction survey of consumers served in group per quarter.
  • Supervises and/or co-supervises level 1 and level 2 OTA and OT students.
