About The Position

Terrestrial Energy is seeking a Manager, Cost & Financial Strategy to join their team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This role is crucial for supporting the deployment of their Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) small modular nuclear plant by conducting rigorous cost analysis, financial modeling, and economic assessments. The position operates under the direction of the Vice President Business Development and collaborates closely with various internal teams and executive leadership within a regulated nuclear environment. The company is a developer of advanced, Generation IV nuclear reactors and has recently completed a merger creating a publicly listed operating company (NASDAQ “IMSR”) to secure capital for growth. This is a unique opportunity to participate in the execution of the company’s growth business plan during a period of significant government and industry interest in SMR and advanced reactor technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or related analytical discipline
  • 10+ years of professional experience in financial analysis, project finance, infrastructure finance, investment banking, private equity, or energy finance
  • Demonstrated experience building complex financial models in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong understanding of capital markets, financing structures, and capital stack development
  • Experience analyzing debt, equity, and hybrid financing instruments
  • Ability to structure ambiguous strategic questions into rigorous financial models
  • Strong quantitative reasoning and analytical capabilities
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to present financial analyses to senior management
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational discipline
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel financial modeling capability
  • Financial statement modeling and cash flow analysis
  • Scenario and sensitivity modeling
  • Strong PowerPoint skills for financial presentations
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for sponsorship for employment visa status.
  • Successful candidate must be able to access and use information subject to U.S. Export Control Laws, which mandate all citizenships (including dual citizenships) be from the U.S. Department of Energy’s List of Generally Authorized Countries (10 CFR Part 810 Appendix A) unless a specific authorization from the U.S. Department of Energy is obtained or unless you are a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident, or protected individual under the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Act (8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to Python, R, or other analytical tools is beneficial
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau is an asset
  • Experience in energy, infrastructure, or project finance sectors
  • Prior experience at an investment bank, infrastructure fund, private equity firm, or project finance advisory group
  • Experience evaluating large capital projects ($100M–$5B+)
  • Familiarity with LCOE modeling and energy infrastructure economics
  • Exposure to financial modeling for power generation, energy infrastructure, or large industrial projects
  • CFA, FMVA certification

Responsibilities

  • Develop integrated financial models for large-scale infrastructure and energy projects
  • Prepare and maintain project finance models including cash flow projections, DCF analysis, and valuation scenarios
  • Evaluate alternative financing structures and funding strategies for major capital projects
  • Analyze loan structures, debt sizing, coverage ratios, and financing constraints
  • Support analysis of project finance metrics including IRR, NPV, DSCR, LLCR, and other key indicators
  • Develop cost models to evaluate cost structure, unit economics (LCOE), scaling effects, cost of goods sold, and comparative business options
  • Perform scenario, sensitivity, and risk analyses to support investment and project development decisions
  • Translate qualitative business assumptions into clear, structured, and transparent quantitative models
  • Prepare concise financial summaries and presentations for senior management and Board review
  • Collaborate with strategy, business development, engineering, and finance teams to support project development
  • Maintain model documentation, structure, and version control best practices
  • Support evaluation of strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and commercial structures
  • Contribute to financial planning and strategic analysis supporting company growth
  • Other duties as assigned
