About The Position

The Material Estimator will work and is responsible for accurately compiling the complete cost of materials needed for various projects and tasks in support of production and spares proposals. This role involves preparing cost estimates for varied proposals, including components, parts, or an entire complex instrument such as a complex electronic system. The estimator will work from preliminary or final drawings and from partial or complete engineering information, estimating labor costs, determining the type and cost of tools required, and deciding whether component parts would be manufactured or purchased. They will also review designs with the engineering department to suggest changes that could lower costs or facilitate manufacture. The role requires operating personal computers and LAN terminals using various software, and ensuring estimates are accurate enough to serve as a basis for sales price commitments or the adoption of new apparatus designs. The Material Estimator leverages supplier quotes, historical purchase data, price lists/catalogs, available stock materials, and engineering estimates to determine items for supplier quotations. They conduct thorough analyses of technical drawings, parts lists, specifications, and related documents to ascertain estimating needs and provide accurate, detailed, priced material information with lead-times to the Pricing Department. Effective communication with external individuals and internal customers is crucial for delivering projects under pressure and meeting proposal deadlines and budget constraints. The role actively supports GATE reviews and provides robust support during Customer/DCAA audits, ensuring all estimations and procurement activities comply with relevant regulations and company policies. Maintaining accurate records of estimated and actual material usage is essential for continuous improvement of estimation processes. Additionally, the role involves conducting FAR 15 compliant and detailed analysis of suppliers TINA proposals and accompanying documentation to validate labor, products, and services, and assessing source data to establish the reasonableness of proposed costs and pricing.
