About The Position

Under general direction of the Director of Prototype Program Management, the Cost Estimating Manager is responsible for completing company objectives that support customer and corporate milestones. This role involves initial customer contact for future prototype programs, up-front program planning, and supporting the Program Concept Definition (PCD) stage of program development. The manager will align with relevant departments to define deliverables and scope of work, identify key dates, and set up program outlines. Responsibilities include tracking critical milestones, facilitating program overviews with senior management, organizing BOM development, and cascading program information to Cost Estimating and Scheduling teams. The role also involves identifying long-lead program items, securing early funding, supporting tooling planning, and managing the transition of programs from pre-planning to kickoff. The manager will adjust projections based on customer milestones, develop customer relationships, and integrate the team into vehicle teams. A key aspect is managing the Cost Estimating team, overseeing their responsibilities such as prototype cost models, quotes, RFQ logs, change control, PO tracking, and process improvements. The manager will review major quotes for accuracy and cost strategy, establish quote timing goals, direct meeting cadences, and monitor deviations. They will also lead team meetings, develop new strategies for timely and accurate quotes, support reporting on financial status, and lead department planning, training, and continuous improvement efforts, including presenting department measurables and supporting cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • A four-year degree or equivalent experience in Program Management.
  • Supervisor or Management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Initial customer contact for future prototype programs and up-front program planning.
  • Support & participate in customer Program Concept Definition (PCD) stage of program development.
  • Align with NMPDC Body Manager and PD Engineering groups to define TDM end-item deliverables and scope of work for upcoming prototype programs.
  • Identify key dates and lead set-up of Program outline based on Milestone & Deliverables worksheet plan.
  • Initial tracking R/Y/G of critical Milestones during Pre-Planning phase, identify any issues, and lead containment actions and reporting.
  • Facilitate early Program overview with TDM Senior Management for strategic planning (capacity, equipment, etc.).
  • Organize BOM development and cascade necessary Program information into Cost Estimating and Scheduling teams to support their internal and external deliverables for budgetary estimates and capacity evaluations prior to Kickoff.
  • Identifies long lead program items and secures necessary early funding to support program timing.
  • Support initial DCV off Production tooling planning (material & parts) for both SBU and GVT commodities.
  • Work with assigned Platform team and Platform Manager to transition management of Program from Pre-planning phase to Program Kickoff.
  • Adjusts projections and planning based on customer actual milestones.
  • Develops customer relationships and works to integrate TDM in vehicle team.
  • Manager of Cost Estimating team supporting their normal responsibilities and deliverables including prototype cost models & quotes, RFQ logs, change control, PO tracking, records, etc., and process improvements.
  • Reviews all major quotes for acceptability, accuracy, and cost strategy (including senior management as needed).
  • Establishes quote timing goals and priority, and monitors for deviations.
  • Directs meeting cadence and quoting strategy for change control on any given program.
  • Maintains weekly (minimum) team meetings with CET and can report on status of quotes as required.
  • Works with CET to develop new strategies and innovate processes for more timely and accurate quotes.
  • Supports reporting on financial status of prototype programs to Senior Management.
  • Leader in department planning, training, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Develops and presents out department measurables.
  • Support TDM ISO 14001, QOS, and 5S Cross-Functional Team efforts.
