Under general direction of the Director of Prototype Program Management, the Cost Estimating Manager is responsible for completing company objectives that support customer and corporate milestones. This role involves initial customer contact for future prototype programs, up-front program planning, and supporting the Program Concept Definition (PCD) stage of program development. The manager will align with relevant departments to define deliverables and scope of work, identify key dates, and set up program outlines. Responsibilities include tracking critical milestones, facilitating program overviews with senior management, organizing BOM development, and cascading program information to Cost Estimating and Scheduling teams. The role also involves identifying long-lead program items, securing early funding, supporting tooling planning, and managing the transition of programs from pre-planning to kickoff. The manager will adjust projections based on customer milestones, develop customer relationships, and integrate the team into vehicle teams. A key aspect is managing the Cost Estimating team, overseeing their responsibilities such as prototype cost models, quotes, RFQ logs, change control, PO tracking, and process improvements. The manager will review major quotes for accuracy and cost strategy, establish quote timing goals, direct meeting cadences, and monitor deviations. They will also lead team meetings, develop new strategies for timely and accurate quotes, support reporting on financial status, and lead department planning, training, and continuous improvement efforts, including presenting department measurables and supporting cross-functional teams.
