About The Position

Estimates labor and material costs of manufacturing and engineering based on request for proposal (RFP) data submitted by prospective customers. Analyzes specifications, including sketches, blueprints, bills of material, or sample layouts, and calculates production costs using labor and material pricing schedules and historical data. Collects cost data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors. Computes cost estimates of raw materials or subcontracted work and labor. Prepares and maintains historical cost data. Creates cost models for cost estimating elements. Prepares cost reports and presents findings to management, contract personnel, proposal coordinators, customer representatives, price auditors, vendors, and subcontractors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 1 years of relevant professional experience
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree.
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree.
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree.
  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree.
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree.
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Skills (especially Excel).
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Experiences with data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Estimates labor and material costs of manufacturing and engineering based on request for proposal (RFP) data.
  • Analyzes specifications, including sketches, blueprints, bills of material, or sample layouts.
  • Calculates production costs using labor and material pricing schedules and historical data.
  • Collects cost data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Computes cost estimates of raw materials or subcontracted work and labor.
  • Prepares and maintains historical cost data.
  • Creates cost models for cost estimating elements.
  • Prepares cost reports and presents findings to management, contract personnel, proposal coordinators, customer representatives, price auditors, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Performs ship checks which include climbing vertical/horizontal ladders and being in confined spaces on Nuclear Powered Submarines.
  • Conducts occasional travel for Submarine Fleet Support estimating tasks.
