About The Position

Inside the Role The Cost Engineering department is a global team responsible for calculating costs of purchased parts, tooling, and supplier development costs for series production and new projects. Through the use of standardized processes, IT-systems and our global Cost Engineering network within Daimler Trucks (Brazil, Japan, India, Europe and NAFTA), we generate transparent bottom up cost calculations that can be utilized a multitude of ways. In new product projects like Autonomous, we work in collaboration with Controlling, Purchasing and Engineering departments to set cost targets to help realize or maintain project budgets. Furthering into design change or series support, we aide with design-to-cost optimization, provide gap analysis support for commercial negotiations, and assist with establishing long-term strategies with our suppliers. In Module Strategy, we contribute to establish a global long-term strategy for parts where all of Daimler Trucks can benefit. Often this is done through global sourcing strategies, variant reduction and volume bundling. Cost Engineering is a key player in our cost reduction efforts, either locally in new product projects, through CCI projects and benchmark workshops, or globally through module strategy. The intention for this position is to serve as primary lead for the following commodities: HVAC, compressors, heating including ducting, seats/seat belts, wiper systems, mirrors/mirror CAM, and simple stamping.
