About The Position

Zachry Construction Corporation is seeking a Cost Engineer to support project teams with cost control, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting on heavy civil construction projects. The Cost Engineer will work closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents, and other project personnel to monitor project costs, evaluate performance, identify trends, and provide accurate information to support sound business decisions. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and an understanding of construction operations and project controls.

Requirements

• Previous experience in construction cost engineering, project controls, project engineering, accounting, or a related role required
• Heavy civil construction experience involving highways, bridges, earthwork, concrete, underground utilities, or similar infrastructure projects required
• Understanding of construction cost controls, budgeting, forecasting, and cost-to-complete analysis
• Ability to analyze financial and operational data and identify cost trends and potential risks
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both field and office personnel
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment
• Willingness to learn construction operations and understand how field activities impact project cost and performance
• Commitment to following all company and general safety rules, policies, and guidelines

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field preferred
• Experience with construction management, accounting, ERP, or project controls software preferred

Responsibilities

• Monitor and analyze project costs, commitments, budgets, forecasts, and actual expenditures
• Assist project teams with developing and maintaining accurate cost forecasts throughout the life of the project
• Track labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and other project-related costs
• Analyze cost performance and identify trends, variances, risks, and potential impacts to project profitability
• Prepare regular cost reports, forecasts, variance analyses, and other project controls reporting
• Work with project management and field teams to validate quantities, production rates, and cost-to-complete projections
• Assist with establishing project budgets and cost codes and ensure costs are accurately captured and allocated
• Support monthly project reviews and provide accurate cost information to project and company leadership
• Assist with tracking change orders, potential changes, commitments, and their impact on project costs and forecasts
• Review subcontractor and supplier commitments and help reconcile costs against project budgets
• Maintain accurate project cost records and supporting documentation
• Assist with cash flow projections, earned value analysis, and other project performance measurements as required
• Collaborate with accounting, project controls, estimating, and operations teams to ensure consistency and accuracy of project financial information
• Identify opportunities to improve cost-control processes, reporting, and overall project performance
• Perform additional duties as assigned
