Cost Engineer
About The Position
The Cost Engineer monitors, analyzes, and forecasts the financial outcomes of one or more construction projects within a district. The role collaborates with project management and project controls teams to provide financial insights and recommendations that support project performance and efficiency. The Cost Engineer prepares production documentation and financial reports, tracks project costs and revenue, assists with budgeting and forecasting, and uses company processes and systems to document and control project costs. The position also supports project closeout, accounting-system audits, and financial audits.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Able to analyze data and identify trends or areas of concern.
- Follow through on inquiries and document findings.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Developing written and verbal communication skills.
- Developing knowledge of construction accounting principles and practices.
- Developing knowledge of construction project practices.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in the construction industry, quantities tracking, or engineering is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assemble daily and weekly production documentation control reports.
- Perform cost analysis and spend tracking to monitor project costs and revenue and forecast final financial outcomes.
- Assist with or perform project budget generation and monthly forecasting using company-supported cost control software.
- Document, track, and report costs on assigned projects using company-determined processes and practices.
- Work with project management and project controls teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Support integration of company systems to track, monitor, and control costs.
- Monitor job cost reports against key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Assist with project closeout by validating final revenue before final bill submission.
- Audit accounting systems between the company and owner systems to ensure accuracy.
- Support the financial audit process on assigned projects.
- Generate, analyze, and submit monthly reporting.
