About The Position

As a result of accelerated growth, Altus is looking for a new Quantity Surveyor with pre-construction and construction stage expertise. This is an exciting opportunity to spearhead the end-to-end contract administration process for high-profile, complex construction projects from mixed-use, commercial, offices, institutions such as schools and hospitals, government buildings and residential developments. You will review plans, specifications and contracts to ensure the correct equipment, material and subcontractor services are ordered and/or purchased and negotiate contract terms and conditions. You will work with clients, project managers, architects, engineers, owners and others to make sure project goals are met.

Requirements

  • The education. You may have a degree or diploma in Architecture, Construction or Civil Technology, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Building Science, or a construction related field. You may have, or are working towards, professional accreditation such as PQS, CIQS, RICS membership.
  • Hands-on construction industry expertise. With a knowledge of construction, you have experience in estimating/quantity surveying, contracting, procurement, and scheduling for commercial development projects. You have strong knowledge of CIQS standard method of measurement, both elemental and trade, provincial lien acts, and CCDC standard contract conditions.
  • Technology skills.
  • Relationship building. You can build and foster relationships with internal and client stakeholders across all levels of construction projects, gathering information, and eliciting cooperation both onsite and virtually.
  • Transparent communication style. You are an outstanding communicator who can clarify ambiguities and present information in a way that is structured and makes sense. You can relay delays and setbacks while managing expectations and retaining the client's confidence.
  • A results-oriented focus. You can anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of clients, and you are driven to meet or exceed their expectations. You can innovate solutions to keep the project - and the business - moving forward.
  • Appreciation for cross-team collaboration. You can influence without authority and roll up your sleeves as a critical member of a cross-functional team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a full range of quantity surveying services, with emphasis on contracts and procurement, to new and existing clients
  • Payment Certification. Undertake monthly site inspections, assess construction progress, ensure all compliance documents are provided and recommend progress payment.
  • Cost Allocation. Allocate project costs according to calculated or agreed methods
  • Change Order Review. Analyze and determine reasonableness of various change orders
  • Review and advise on tender packages for scope gaps, quality of documents, risk and recommendations
  • Collaborate with internal/external partners to prepare, write and issue reports
  • Regular client communication to manage the project and resolve issues
  • Manage client relationships in a manner that leads to contract renewal, referrals and service expansion including up-sells and cross-sells
  • Preparation of construction estimates at various stages of the design process
  • Finalize contract accounts
