About The Position

Company, Department: Nova Scotia Power, Capital Finance Team Type of Employment: Regular, Full-time Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia Closing Date: August 13th, 2026 We are currently looking for a Cost Analyst to join our Capital Finance team supporting Large Capital Projects. Reporting to Manager, Capital Accounting, you will be responsible for monitoring the financial performance of the Large Capital Projects group and providing reliable and timely information and analysis to key stakeholders in both Operations and Finance.

Requirements

  • A recognized Accounting/Business Certificate or degree, and a minimum of 2 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Excel and are comfortable using accounting software
  • Strong organizational skills, communication skills, are detailed oriented, and are comfortable working to deadlines
  • Commitment to personal and professional growth; support is available for employees pursuing their CPA designation
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a proactive approach to learning and problem-solving

Responsibilities

  • Proving accounting for the monthly, quarterly, and yearly closes, which includes preparing required journal entries and analyzing project accruals
  • Creating capital project estimates and documentation to support Forecast and Budgeting cycles
  • Preparing detailed variance analysis for Capital Projects, comparing results to Budgets and Forecasts
  • Preparing monthly reconciliations
  • Performing projects tasks with overall quality, while being able to prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Ad-hoc projects and analysis, as required
