About The Position

The Cost Accountant is responsible for delivering timely, accurate, and complete inventory valuation and product cost information. This position plays a key role in maintaining and updating Woodcraft Industries’ inventory system and cost information used to determine product profitability and pricing decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3 or more years of cost accounting experience
  • Proficient will all Microsoft Office products; advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • ERP system experience
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports and statements
  • Professional written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, and attention to detail
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving capabilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in manufacturing accounting and SOX preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Ensure appropriate inventory valuation and costing of all products in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and company policies.
  • Responsible for preparing and completing quarterly standard cost roll related to changes in raw material costs.
  • Preparation of profitability analysis and review of product margins.
  • Develop and maintain standard costs of finished goods and production components in ERP system
  • Provide analysis related to lumber cost changes, grade mix usage, and grade mix availability.
  • Analyze cost accounting data and assist with cycle count / physical inventories.
  • Analysis of slow moving/obsolete inventory and prepare inventory reserve calculation.
  • Maintain and improve processes and controls associated with manufacturing costs and inventory valuation.
  • Ensure validity and accuracy of ERP through analysis, internal audit, and coordination with inventory control, production and work order processing.
  • Perform monthly accounting closure procedures and deliverables which includes journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Maintain all journals and ledgers used to prepare the monthly financial statements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial transactions and assists in the research and analysis of general ledger account variances.
  • Prepare and review assigned general ledger account reconciliations and all supporting schedules.
  • Assist in the completion of month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial reporting.
  • Back-up others as needed in the finance area to help with workloads and to ensure work is completed timely and accurately.
  • Assist in preparation of annual budget/plans.
  • Process journal entries as input to accurate and timely financial statements to meet the needs of internal and external management, within bounds of established deadlines and policies, including Sarbanes Oxley controls.
  • Independently perform balance sheet reviews for anomalies and reconcile Balance Sheet accounts on a monthly basis, identifying and clearing all reconciling items.
  • Assist in compliance reviews, with focus on transactional processing, monitoring master data, and control design.
  • Perform self-audits for peers and provide information on a timely basis to both internal and external audit for assigned areas.
  • Complete assigned GL Account reconciliations in accordance with GAAP and internal policy.
  • Ability to take ownership for the subject matter areas and independently follow up on and resolve related issues
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
