About The Position

The Cost Accountant is responsible for accurate and timely processing and analysis of manufacturing cost. Also responsible for general ledger accounting, including journal entries, month-end close process, financial reporting, account analysis and reconciliation.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in accounting or closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience required.
At least three years of accounting experience.
At least one year of cost accounting in a manufacturing environment.
Effective communication skills and good interpersonal skills.
Demonstrates initiative and is able to work with little supervision.
Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices.
Solid understanding of standard cost structures.
Proficient user of Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge of integrated accounting systems.
Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.

Responsibilities

Processes cost transactions, analyzes and adjusts direct sales cost of goods sold, reports on activity to management.
Analyzes excess/slow moving, obsolescence, and warranty reserves; makes journal entries based on analysis.
Records monthly period cost entries and manufacturing variances; prepares analysis reports as needed.
Reviews, analyzes, and ensures adequate controls of inventory balances; audits the cycle count process for inventory.
Posts direct labor hours.
Establishes and reviews standard costs.
Performs manufacturing and month-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries, preparation and distribution of financial information, account analysis and reconciliation.
Analyze monthly budget vs actual manufacturing variances.
Assists with the annual fiscal year-end audit and any internal audits as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
