About The Position

The Cost Accountant is responsible for accurate and timely processing and analysis of manufacturing cost. Also responsible for general ledger accounting, including journal entries, month-end close process, financial reporting, account analysis and reconciliation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience required.
  • At least three years of accounting experience.
  • At least one year of cost accounting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Effective communication skills and good interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative and is able to work with little supervision.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices.
  • Solid understanding of standard cost structures.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of integrated accounting systems.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.

Responsibilities

  • Processes cost transactions, analyzes and adjusts direct sales cost of goods sold, reports on activity to management.
  • Analyzes excess/slow moving, obsolescence, and warranty reserves; makes journal entries based on analysis.
  • Records monthly period cost entries and manufacturing variances; prepares analysis reports as needed.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and ensures adequate controls of inventory balances; audits the cycle count process for inventory.
  • Posts direct labor hours.
  • Establishes and reviews standard costs.
  • Performs manufacturing and month-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries, preparation and distribution of financial information, account analysis and reconciliation.
  • Analyze monthly budget vs actual manufacturing variances.
  • Assists with the annual fiscal year-end audit and any internal audits as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
