About The Position

The Cost Accountant is responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing accurate product-cost information across Bonnell Industries’ manufacturing operations. This position provides financial visibility into material, labor, overhead, inventory, and production performance to support sound operational and pricing decisions. The Cost Accountant works closely with Finance, Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing, Inventory Control, Sales, and executive leadership to ensure product costs and margins are accurate, manufacturing variances are understood, inventory is properly valued, and cost-saving opportunities are identified. The position requires an experienced accounting professional with a strong understanding of standard costing, inventory accounting, bills of material, labor routings, overhead allocation, and manufacturing variance analysis. CORE ACCOUNTABILITY: Provide accurate, timely, and actionable manufacturing-cost information that improves product profitability, inventory accuracy, pricing decisions, operational efficiency, and financial reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Significant cost-accounting experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with standard costing, inventory accounting, cost of goods sold, bills of material, production routings, work-in-process, and manufacturing variances.
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Experience supporting month-end close, account reconciliation, financial reporting, and audit activities.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, data analysis, and large-data-set management.
  • Experience working with manufacturing ERP systems.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting, standard costing, variance analysis, inventory valuation, and internal controls.
  • Ability to interpret bills of material, routings, work orders, labor reporting, and production transactions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify root causes of financial and operational discrepancies.
  • Ability to convert complex financial information into clear operational recommendations.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, or similar professional certification.
  • Experience with Epicor ERP.
  • Experience with Sage or an ERP-system conversion.
  • Experience in custom manufacturing, engineered-to-order, configure-to-order, or mixed-mode manufacturing.
  • Experience supporting Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, or continuous-improvement programs.
  • Experience working with multi-department or multi-facility manufacturing operations.
  • Experience developing cost-accounting policies, procedures, dashboards, and management reports.
