About The Position

Vance-Granville Community College (VGCC) is seeking an experienced and student-focused professional to serve as a Part-Time Cosmetology Instructor. This role offers the opportunity to inspire the next generation of cosmetology professionals through engaging classroom instruction and hands-on salon training. The instructor will create a dynamic and supportive learning environment, help students build confidence in their technical skills, and guide them toward successful completion of program requirements and state licensure. The instructor will stay current in their field, support student learning outside of the classroom, provide effective instruction, develop and design cosmetology courses, teach a variety of cosmetology and lab courses, and maintain proper record keeping. They will teach online, face-to-face, and hybrid instruction (day/evening), create and carry out lesson plans, maintain accurate records, assess student learning outcomes, and participate in program advisory committees. Travel to satellite campuses may be required.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Cosmetology or related field
  • Three years of full-time or equivalent work experience as a cosmetologist.
  • Current NC Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners Cosmetologist License.
  • Current NC Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners Cosmetologist Teacher License
  • Proficient in various computer programs such as Microsoft and Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree in Cosmetology or related field
  • Experience teaching at a community college
  • Proficiency in Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Stay current in chosen field and teaching methodology by meeting or exceeding all institutional professional development guidelines, participating in professional development workshops and seminars.
  • Support student learning outside of the classroom by holding regular office hours, providing information about additional college resources, and responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner to promote student success.
  • Instructor offers continuous student engagement.
  • Provide effective instruction to students by preparing for each learning experience, providing supplemental materials to enhance lessons, and using effective evaluation methods to evaluate student performance in courses.
  • Develop and design cosmetology courses.
  • Teach a variety of cosmetology and lab courses and maintain proper record keeping.
  • Teach online, face-to-face, and hybrid instruction (day/evening)
  • Create and carry out lesson plans to ensure industry relevant content in courses by using required NC Board of Cosmetic Art rubrics
  • Maintain accurate records such as attendance, grades, student learning outcomes, and other important data and submit reports according to college policies.
  • Assess student learning outcomes.
  • Participate in program advisory committees, attending departmental meetings, and serving as backup for other faculty members.
  • Develop course syllabi.
  • Travel to satellite campuses may be required.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.
